The Neighbourhood of Friends Family Resource Centre started as a Literacy Centre in the summer of 2004 with only one site located on 63 Moore’s Road in Clarenville. Shortly thereafter, the Board of Directors decided to support parent-operated sites located in Southwest Arm and Swift Current. This enabled these sites to avail of the materials and services of the Literacy Centre.
In early 2006, the Literacy Centre successfully secured core funding through the Early Childhood Development Initiative and became a Family Resource Centre. This funding has enabled us to expand services to another two sites, as determined in a Needs Assessment conducted in early 2007. A new site was started in Come By Chance in October, 2007, and another new site was established in Random Island in November, 2007.
Due to the number of services offered in the Clarenville area, a second site had to be developed in the town. The Hub Site is now located at 26 Manitoba Drive, with a Healthy Baby Club and Clothing Exchange being offered from the original 63 Moores Road location.
